My Speech

 

Do superheroes need superpowers?

At first I thought that super powers did make a superhero but I eventually realised that there could be more than meets the eye.  The internet said that all superheroes have to have powers and fight crime.  It also said they’re strong, fearless, have big muscles, abs of steel and are tough.  Some superheroes also have unreal features like turning into fire.  But does a person really need to have these features to be a superhero?  


If we were to talk about superheroes in movies, the most unlikely would be Po, from Kung Fu Panda.  Unlikely, because he is a big fat, unfit, food loving Panda, and yet the universe chose him to be the dragon warrior and to protect China.  Po did not have any of the powers I mentioned before.  When his father finally told him that there was no secret ingredient to his soup, Po finally understood the meaning of the  dragon scroll.  There was no secret ingredient.  To make something special, you just have to believe it’s special.  Po just had to believe in himself.  He found the inner strength he needed to overcome the bad guys. 


Po did not have the appearance of a typical superhero but he possessed qualities worthy of a superhero such as inner strength, bravery, loyalty and a passion for justice.  He found strength to carry on when he was at breaking point.  He stood up for what was right, even if it meant going to prison or even death.   

 

When searching the internet I found many real life superheroes.  One such person is a Pakistani girl called Malala.  When the Taliban took over her village in 2008 they stopped girls from going to school.  In 2012, she spoke out publicly on behalf of all girls and their right to an education.  Sadly doing what was right made her a target and she was shot in the side of the head.

Thankfully she survived, and after months of surgeries and rehabilitation she was determined to continue what she had started.   In 2014 she helped start a charity dedicated to giving every girl an opportunity to achieve a future of her choice.  Later that year, she received a Nobel Peace Prize and was the youngest ever to win this award. 

She changed the way that people treated girls in Pakistan and because of that people around the world treasure her.  Doing the right thing made her a superhero with no powers.


Being a superhero doesn't mean having super powers, the super power comes from within.  It means believing in yourself, standing up for what is right and helping others.   Po and Malala are superheroes.  The internet was wrong, you don’t need to have superpowers because it all comes from inside. Next time you think that superheroes need powers don't judge a book by its cover.  It's what's inside.

What Christmas means to me.

 What Christmas means to me.


Hi I am Anais Brodie and I'm going to tell you What Christmas means to me. And Christmas only happens once a year and it's my favourite time of the year so it's really exciting.


Firstly what makes my christmas day so special is that we have a delicious croissant filled with cheese and ham for breakfast and we only get this meal on Christmas so it's really exciting. Not only that, we have some yummy juice. And for dinner we have a BBQ with all our family. It probably isn't the most amazing thing but to me having something that I want to have everyday in my life is more than enuf.  


Secondly, spending time with Family.  When I spend time with my family it is always fun, probably because we like to spend so much time together. And when we spend time together it brings all of us joy. But what we like to do together the most is spend time with water guns and get wet or go to the boiling beach. And I don't often see some parts of my family so when you see them you just feel this joy and you wish Christmas will never end.  


Thirdly, my favourite thing about Christmas is that the weather is not snowing because it is super hot and that we can go swimming a lot more. We also can go outdoors and have BBQ’s and eat ice blocks cause it's so hot. And that you're never inside next to the fire and drinking hot chocolate because you're outside in your togs having fun in the sun all day.


So I think that my Christmas day is so much more fun than anybody else's. And what makes mine so unique is that not everybody does the same thing that my family does each year.

My goal was to be able to use my strategies on fractions activities.I was hoping to improve on my goal and I have.  I really like that there are many strategies that are easy to use. I just think that we have to work on percentages because doing questions with them in it is very hard.

I need to be able to break numbers up to make it easier to subtract. 


To achieve this goal I can break up single digit numbers to add or subtract. Eg 47 + 8 means 47 (+ 3 + 5) = 47 + 3 = 50 + 5 = 55 or 

in 43 - 6 the 6 would be partitioned into a 3 and a 3. 43 - 3 = 40 - 3 = 37.   

I need a range of strategies to be able to use to add and subtract when solving different problems

To achieve this goal I can use different strategies. I can use number lines to count on and count on back, rounding skills to compensate as well as an algorithm. I must be able to partition well so I can bridge through tidy numbers. 


I need to be able to select the strategies to use to add and subtract when solving different problems


To achieve this goal I will have a range of different strategies I can use. I can look at numbers in a maths problem and say this strategy will be best here because ………  I need to be able to justify and explain. I begin to check my answers.

I need to be able to extend my use of addition and subtraction strategies to decimal numbers, fractions, and percentages. 

To achieve this goal I will be able to solve math problems that involve decimal numbers, fractions. I will use self checks and inverse to help my accuracy

The bright sky had a blanket of blue keeping it warm.

The roaring wind had a screeching sound as it passed me.

The tall trees sang sweet simple sounds while swaying in the breeze.

The singing teacher sings sounds super soft he song like a bird.

I watched the leaves spin slowly round and round.

The leaves brush off the people around me.

The long bushy grass softly sways.

I see feathers so heavy the way a tonne.

I see the bright sun shine inside me.

My Reflection

 My Reflection


My goal was to be able to use my strategies on fraction activities.I was hoping to improve on my goal but I have not yet.Because of lockdown I have not figure out how to do this so I really need tasks to understand my goal.I do think that the teachers really need to have some more tasks on these types of activities so for the people that have the same goal they could be able to achieve it.

My Algebra Test Anais

 My Algebra Reflection

My first test I did I had know clue of how to do algebra and only got the first 2 questions right.I did not understand how to make a formula and to be able to make a table. It was really new to me.

My second test I learnt how to make a table and had a better understanding on how to make a formula.I got all the answers right and got 4 more questions right than last time.

The yellow is where I am and purple is where I want to be.

Fraction Reflection

 Fraction Reflection 


As a Learners: 


What did I learn during the two different lessons?

When I was learning from Henry and Stella were teaching me Adding Fractions and when I was learning from Micah and Owen were also teaching Adding Fractions. 



What could have been better?

Micah and Owen could be less silly and Henry could try and explain a bit better.


As a Teacher:


What were the strengths of my / our teaching?

Differently when I was teaching in the second half everybody said that it was really fun and enjoyable and we supported them and we were teaching them strategies to help make it easier.



What could have been better? 

Our intro was quite bad because everybody was talking and it was hard to explain and we probably said it at the wrong time. 


As an Observer:


What did I learn from being an observer? 

I learnt that it is a lot harder to teach when you are beginning because you could say something wrong,you could teach the wrong thing,and people might not agree with you.



Would you like the opportunity to teach children in another area of maths? Why or why not?

I would love to have another opportunity like this to teach because I felt that it was easy to explain things and you can learn from each other about things.

Anais Eastwood Hill Poem

 As I had a scroll around my house a butterfly flew right past.It's purple and black wings had a magnificent glow telling me where to go.


I followed the butterfly here and there until it disappeared somewhere.I lunged over the flower bed to find lots of species but not the magnificent one I had seen earlier.


The rest of the day I had no luck. So I went out to clear my heart.My walk was lonely, lonely and indeed but then a spark had caught my eye. It was a  magnificent sight.The purple and black shimmer sparkled on its body.It was my butterfly.

This graph shows the progress made by students over Terms 1 and 2 with their Basic Facts Tests. The aim is for students to become automatic with their knowledge of Addition and Subtraction to 20, and Multiplication and Division to 100 by the end of year 6. This will help students gain better understandings with other Strands, Concepts and Problems.

Reflection about My Basic Facts Term 1 and 2.

Term 2 has been a massive improvement because I have moved on from Basic Facts. I still need to improve in my 8 times table. And in Decimals I need to improve in percentages. Mathletics has been a massive help when I'm doing decimals.
